Recharge your batteries with our very special green Weekend Escape: EcoTravel presents a memorable 1-day tour from Medan into our green wonderland – including a jungle trek to the Sumatran orangutans. During a 4-hour adventure hike in Gunung Leuser National Park you will have the big chance to see orangutans, other wildlife and a wide variety of plants, trees and insects – followed by tube-rafting fun on Bohorok River back to the jungle village of Bukit Lawang. EcoTravel’s weekend escape is an unforgettable experience for travellers with limited time – and for everyone who doesn’t feel like staying close to the jungle overnight!
Package details
EcoTravel’s 1-day tour into the green starts at 07:00 am with an early morning pickup from your Medan hotel (air-con car or minibus / 3 hours). The 3-hour ride (approx.) to Bukit Lawang will take you past numerous small villages and palm oil plantations. Upon arrival in the jungle you will meet your EcoTravel guiding team over a coffee, tee or soft drink in the famous Bamboo restaurant of Ecolodge Bukit Lawang (located near the taxi stop). Your English speaking guide will give a short introduction to your Jungle View Hike. Then you set off for your jungle adventure!
During the next four hours you will experience the beautiful nature of the rainforest around Bukit Lawang and see some fascinating Sumatran wildlife and plants. The surrounding forest still offers big opportunities to observe Sumatran orangutans. Around noon there will be a short lunch break before your trek in Gunung Leuser National Park continues. Around 15:00 pm your “jungle taxi” will take you down Bohorok River back to Bukit Lawang by traditional tube-rafting.
Next stop: EcoTravel Cottages. Spend two leisurely hours after your hike to let the impressions settle and to unwind or to swim. Take a rest in the beautiful garden of our EcoTravel Cottages and enjoy great frontal views of the massive rainforest. On the way back to your taxi you discover the pretty village of Bukit Lawang: the 30-minute hike along the famous Bukit Lawang walking way which follows Bohorok River downstream, will take you past restaurants, guesthouses and jungle style arts & craft shops.
Your 3-hour journey back to Medan will start at about 17:30 pm. After a memorable green weekend escape you will return to your Medan hotel. Note: If your time is very limited, your driver can bring you back to your Medan hotel right after your jungle trek, i.e. from about 15:00 pm. Another option would be to extend your weekend escape and stay in one of our jungle boutique hotels, EcoTravel Cottages or The Hangout for one night – even arrangeable at short notice. And why not join an additional half-day tour the following morning (extra costs & subject to availability)?
